Kazakh President Tokayev Begins First Two-Day State Visit to Pakistan

(MENAFN) Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev began his inaugural two-day state visit to Pakistan on Tuesday. He was welcomed at Noor Khan Airbase in Rawalpindi by Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.

During the visit, Tokayev is scheduled to hold talks with Zardari and Sharif, as well as address the Pakistan-Kazakhstan Business Forum. According to the Pakistani Foreign Ministry, the visit provides “an important and timely opportunity to undertake a comprehensive review of bilateral relations, discuss new avenues for broadening cooperation, particularly in trade, logistics, regional connectivity, people-to-people contacts, and explore collaboration at regional and international forums.”

The ministry highlighted that the visit reflects the “strengthening bonds” between the two countries, their commitment to turning historic and cultural ties into tangible cooperation, and a shared aspiration for regional peace and progress.

Diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Kazakhstan were established in 1992, with bilateral trade reaching $53.7 million in 2024. Defense cooperation remains a key area of engagement, described by the Kazakh government as “among the most productive and dynamically evolving areas of Kazakhstan–Pakistan interstate cooperation.”
